Duff "Rose" McKagan was born on Febuary 5th 1964 in Seattle Washington. In early 1985 he joined Slash & Steven on their band Road Crew, They were looking for a singer and a rythm guitar player. When Duff had saw the ad that Axl & Izzy put up in the Recycler for a bass player he then left Road Crew to join Axl and Izzy on HollyWood Rose. (Which he had no idea at first that HollyWood Rose was having the same problem as Road Crew was.) Since they all needed a bigger band and guitar and drum player Duff got them all together and later finally they became Guns N' Roses. He was known as "The King Of Beers" when it came to the late night parties, and so many alcohol and drugs almost took him away. After he left Guns N' Roses in 1994... he was sober and getting his life back together. No more alcohol, drugs, and getting into trouble. Now he's living a clean life with his new band, Loaded.

This in fact is not the only band he's been in. He claims he has been in over 30 bands, including The Fastbacks (drummer), Neurotic Outsiders (guitar), The Fartz, and alot of others. Dispite all the drugs & alcohol; when they were buddies he had alot of good times, the concerts, the after concert parties. When Duff was still in Gn'R he had realeased a solo album "Believe In Me" which was released in late 1993 almost at the same time when The Spaghetti Incident? was released. As we all know The Spaghetti Incident? sold poorly, but when it comes down to Appetite For Destructon which sold over 13 million copies by 1995 u really don't want to be comparing or anything.

The bass guitar is not the only insturment he can play either. He can play the drums, lead guitar, rythm guitar, and even percussion. He sings also. To prove that, I'd recommend buying his "Believe In Me" solo record, it really is a great album.

When he first started playing he was only in high school and he dropped out cause he said "I wouldn't get home from shows until 3 or 4am." His first band he was ever in was "The Vains". After that he was the first drum player for "The Fastbacks".
